New jointly
developed technology expands capabilities and pushes HD telepresence
into new markets
Telanetix, Inc., a leading communications solutions provider
of telepresence and Voice over IP (VoIP) services, today revealed
its agreement with AMD to jointly develop telepresence focused
stream computing technology and announced the first results
of this ongoing joint technology effort.
Stream Computing allows graphics processor units (GPUs) to
accelerate the complex computations required in the encoding
and decoding of telepresence media streams, while working
in concert with both existing CPUs and future integrated CPU/GPU
processing platforms.
"We are excited to have worked with Telanetix over the
last year to adapt our Stream Computing technology for use
in demanding media applications such as Telepresence,"
said Patricia Harrell, Director, Stream Computing of AMD.
"Telanetix Digital Presence is an ideal use for the sheer
power and flexibility advantages our Stream Computing platform
can offer. I believe that the Telanetix approach of using
flexible computing resources such as GPUs and CPUs instead
of application specific hardware will not only continue to
be effective, but may grow even more powerful due to its superior
flexibility."
"We continue to expand our Digital Presence Technology,
again showing the power of our software driven platform approach
to do things formerly believed impossible except via long
product cycle, expensive hardware," noted Rob Arnold,
CTO of the Telanetix Video Division. "Harnessing the
power of the ever more powerful, increasingly integrated CPU/GPU
architecture with approaches such as Stream Computing is key
to our ongoing technology roadmap. This further increases
our ability to grow our unique technological edge in providing
market leading feature sets, flexibility, and pricing."
By utilizing this new technology in its Digital Presence product
line, Telanetix enables higher quality, lower cost High Definition
(HD) telepresence, both extending HD capability to the large
mid-market telepresence segment, and continuing to "future
proof" the Digital Presence technology platform by enabling
a wide range of workflow oriented vertical market solutions.
This technology is now available and shipping in every Digital
Presence system, as part of the recent Telanetix 3.4.3 Digital
Presence technology platform release. The technology has been
applied not only to new systems, but also to the existing
installed base through the Digital Presence systems' platform
update capability. Additional platform products for conferencing
and other vertical market solutions are in development.
