Immersive TANDBERG Telepresence T3 System
and TANDBERG-Certified Services Complete Telepresence Experience
TANDBERG, a provider of telepresence, high definition (HD)
video conferencing and mobile video solutions, today introduced
an industry first telepresence server that seamlessly brings
TANDBERG telepresence and multi-vendor video conferencing
endpoints into a telepresence environment. A new package of
TANDBERG-certified services coupled with the new TANDBERG
Telepresence T3 immersive system - both announced today -
complete the telepresence experience.

With the TANDBERG Telepresence Server, any type of standards-compliant
video system can be added to a TANDBERG telepresence meeting
at the best possible quality, including HD. For example, an
expert from a home office using standards-compliant PC-video
can join in a telepresence meeting at a moment's notice to
speed decision-making. The Telepresence Server provides robustness
and reliability through unique TANDBERG transcoding technology,
which allows systems with varying capabilities on different
networks with different bandwidths to join into the same telepresence
meeting. The Telepresence Server becomes a platform for scalability
as an organization's use of telepresence grows.
For user convenience, five different telepresence viewing
modes are available, that extend the concept of continuous
presence into the telepresence environment. Meeting participants
can see each other at the same time between multiple sites,
rather than just one other site. TANDBERG telepresence users
can select their preferred mode and, for connecting standards-compliant
video conferencing systems, the server intelligently determines
the best mode to establish the highest quality experience
possible.
"The ability to include video systems from multiple vendors
in telepresence sessions while maintaining the 'in the same
room' collaboration experience is extremely powerful,"
explains Ira Weinstein, senior analyst and partner at Wainhouse
Research. "With its flexible on-screen layouts and integrated
transcoding capabilities, TANDBERG's Telepresence Server will
increase the value and impact of sessions including both telepresence
and standard video systems."
"The TANDBERG Telepresence Server will break down the
barrier between telepresence and video conferencing, enabling
everyone both inside and outside of an organization to interact
face-to-face," said Håkon Dahle, TANDBERG Chief
Technologist. "In addition, it will future-proof an organization's
investment in video communications. By bringing together multiple
video endpoints into a telepresence environment, the TANDBERG
Telepresence Server enables an organization to scale its present
and future use of video."
The TANDBERG Telepresence Server extends TANDBERG's Total
Telepresence solution. TANDBERG Total Telepresence is a complete
set of products and services that includes the TANDBERG Telepresence
T3, TANDBERG Telepresence T1, TANDBERG Personal Telepresence
1700, TANDBERG Codec C90 Telepresence Engine and TANDBERG-certified
services.
The TANDBERG Telepresence Server will ship by January 2009.
