HaiVision Systems Inc., the world's leading
vendor of high performance H.264 HD and SD video codecs, today
announced the availability of the new PIRANHA encoding platform.
The PIRANHA, based on HaiVision's low-latency H.264 encoding
engine, combines time-based metadata with compressed video
and audio into industry-standard MPEG transport streams. The
PIRANHA is targeted at applications specifically within military
markets where auxiliary data is directly associated with the
video stream, such as mobile surveillance platforms. Because
such data can change over time (e.g., position information),
the data is merged in real time with the compressed video
information for transport to remote storage, processing, or
display devices.
"With mission-critical network video applications, milliseconds
matter," states Peter Maag, HaiVision vice president.
"We deliver the fastest H.264 compression because of
our extensive experience in network video communications.
With the important development of data handling and the associated
release of the PIRANHA, we have opened the application of
our technology to a broad spectrum of government video projects."
The PIRANHA, available today with full frame-rate standard
definition encoding, obtains the serial data information from
within the closed caption area of the video stream (line 21)
or from a serial port on the encoder system. The PIRANHA encodes
the data and video within the compressed IP stream in under
200 milliseconds, compared to other products that take many
seconds to encode H.264 video. HaiVision's H.264 is fully
compatible with set-top boxes, Adobe® Flash®, QuickTime®
streaming servers, and soft players. The PIRANHA is a compact
1U rack-mounted appliance.
