New Fiber-Based Extender from Gefen Delivers Hi-Def Video Up to 500 Meters

June 16, 2008

Source: Gefen

For ultra long-distance digital video extension, Gefen offers its new DVI-1500HD. This system operates through robust sender and receiver units connected to the source and display at local and remote locations. One 4-link LC-LC multimode fiber cable delivers hi-def video from sender to receiver, supporting resolutions to 1080p full HD or 1920x1200 for computers. Up to 500 meters (1640-feet) in distance can be traveled with an instant delivery of data. HDCP-compliant video may be extended up to 100 meters (330-feet) using an additional CAT-5 cable for DDC transmission.

This long-range DVI extender is ideal for digital signage applications, capable of transmitting hi-def video with zero signal loss or delay. Installation is simple, requiring local sender and remote receiver connections, powered by Gefen's 5v power supplies. Both sender and receiver are designed to be rack mounted, guaranteeing a behind-the-scenes performance.

The Gefen DVI-1500HD package includes one DVI cable to connect the sender unit to the source device, and two 5v power supplies to drive long-distance extension. With an MSRP of $599, Gefen's DVI-1500HD is currently shipping.
For applications that require digital audio delivery, Gefen offers a Digital Audio Extender (MSRP $149) that extends S/PDIF and TOSlink digital audio devices up to 100 meters over one CAT-5e cable.
