Barco, a leading manufacturer in display
technology, and High End Systems, a worldwide entertainment
lighting manufacturer recently acquired by Barco, will unveil
SHOWPIX, the first in a new and innovative line of Pixelation
Luminaires, at the Barco booth at InfoComm 2008 in Las
Vegas, June 18-20.
SHOWPIX is both a high-power LED wash light and a programmable
fixture that can display graphics. Its 18-inch diameter head
features a circular array of 127 homogenous 3-watt LEDs, with
an output of 24,000 RGB lumens. These pixels offer unlimited
visual possibilities by projecting not just color washes,
but images and other eye-catching effects, transforming the
fixture head into a display device. Moreover, the media frames
can be synchronized to music in real time.
The product is another "radical rethinking" lighting
product by acclaimed inventor and HES Chief Technology Officer
Richard Belliveau and his research and development team.
"With the SHOWPIX, we have merged a high power LED wash
light with a programmable high intensity graphic display,"
states Belliveau. "SHOWPIX is simultaneously capable
of operating as a high power conservative illuminator and
producing mind blowing graphic images."
Users can select from a collection of custom onboard images
or upload their own images using HES Echo, a new software
program that offers content visualization, management and
upload capabilities as well as RDM management features. With
this application, users control color mixing, rotation, scale,
wipes, dissolves, transitions between layers, strobing and
dimming. SHOWPIX is controlled using a standard DMX lighting
console.
Through a software process called Pixellage, instantaneous
conversion of many file formats automatically optimizes or
"supercharges" the images and maps the files to
the 127 SHOWPIX LEDs. Prior to uploading to the SHOWPIX, users
can see this mapping on a monitor.
Another new feature, DMX Scratch, provides real time
synchronization of the media file frames to music during a
show. A pixel-mapping protocol also gives the user individual
control of each of the 127 LEDs.
In addition to creative benefits, SHOWPIX offers economic
benefits. Because there are no lamps to replace, this means
that there are no associated labor costs involved, and lower
maintenance costs because of the fixture's limited moving
parts. As compared to traditional light fixtures, these factors
reduce the total cost of ownership.
"The initial response to SHOWPIX has been phenomenal,"
noted Bill Morris, HES Executive VP. "Our position in
the marketplace with price and application makes this an instant
success for both High End Systems and our customers. Richard
and his team have developed a new generation of wash light,
while further establishing HES in the LED marketplace. That's
a double win."
Recently, HES gave its worldwide customer base a preview of
the product in an emailed video campaign, which is available
for viewing on High End Systems' website. SHOWPIX begins shipping
in June, and has been featured in worldwide open house events
throughout that month. Contact HES for product availability
