3M Exhibits Revolutionary Multi-Touch Technology at CeBIT 2010

February 25, 2010

Source: 3M

Targeting software developers in digital signage, CAD-CAM, computer gaming, security monitoring systems, education and training applications

3M will present the new true multi-touch standard to a European audience for the first time at CeBIT 2010, the world\'s foremost tradeshow for the digital industry in Hannover, Germany, 2-6 March.

In Hall 14, Stand K50, 3M will exhibit its 22-inch Multi-Touch LCD desktop displays designed for professional and prosumer (professional consumer) applications that need up to 10-finger touch input or multi-user interactivity with a very fast response time.

“Our aim at CeBIT is to demonstrate the enormous potential for integrating multi-touch capability in next-generation systems and user applications among the European independent software vendors and developers communities” said Francesco Fasoglio, Business Development Manager EMEA, 3M Touch Systems. “We are looking to establish new channel co-operations with total solution providers capable of delivering an enhanced value proposition to customers in new markets.”

3M’s M2256PW 22-inch desktop display supports up to 10-finger touch input and advanced gesture capability, whereas most traditional multi-touch technologies support only two-finger touch and gestures. Utilising this new technology, software developers are able to initiate a technological leap in the way users interact with all types of information and to expand traditional touch interaction to include multiple users and increase collaboration.

Applications taking advantage of this high level of interactivity include computer aided design, digital signage, computer gaming, security monitoring systems, education and training, and videoconferencing

The M2256PW display features a high-definition 1680 x 1050 LCD screen, DVI and VGA video input, audio input, USB and RS232 (serial) dual-mode communication protocol and durable, anti-glare front surface. It is compatible with Windows 7, so no third party touch drivers are required.

For Linux and Windows XP/Vista/7 operating systems, 3M plans to offer a multi-touch driver and software utility, and will offer communication protocol documents for customers who wish to develop their own drivers.

3M Touch Systems provides innovative touchscreen technology products to customers worldwide under the 3M and MicroTouch brands. Popular single touch, gesture touch and multitouch applications include casino gaming, retail point of sale, foodservice, hospitality, self-service, industrial, healthcare and interactive digital signage.
