Sweetwater was founded in Fort Wayne in 1979 as a 4-track professional recording studio. At that time, owner Chuck Surack was recording albums, as well as composing jingles for area retailers. But he faced the same problem as all musicians and studios: Where to find the professional music and audio products he needed at reasonable prices, with dependable advice from people who actually knew what they were talking about.

Surack knew there had to be a better way of doing business. So he put together a company based upon the kind of sales, service, and product support he had been looking for in a retailer — a company dedicated to building long-term, one-on-one relationships with its customers.

Sweetwater recruits the best from throughout the music industry to serve as Sales Engineers. These professionals come from around the nation to Fort Wayne, bringing with them years of experience in music, pro audio, live sound, and recording.
