HaiVision's Low-Latency Codec Allows Leading Church to Create Window Between Live Worship Services at Main and North Campuses

HaiVision Network Video announced today that Prestonwood Baptist Church, one of the largest churches in the United States, is using hai1000 series network video systems and the low-latency MAKO HD H.264 codec to connect its 27,000-member congregation at the main Prestonwood campus in Plano, Texas, and the new Prestonwood North campus in Prosper, Texas.

"HaiVision's delivery of synchronized HD video and eight-channel audio across multiple blades in a single transport stream is a tremendous technical achievement that allows us to extend the rich look and beautiful sound of our services into the Prestonwood North worship area," said Bobby Reynolds, director of media services. "The incredible image quality and tightly synced audio and video of the HD stream allow us to share music and messages and enjoy a common spiritual connection and experience across our campuses."

Equipped with two MAKO HD blades and using one IP address with two port assignments, the HaiVision encoder enables delivery of two HD signals, synchronized with eight channels of production audio, from the main campus to Prestonwood North with latency levels below 70 milliseconds. Segments of the live sermon and performances by the orchestra and choir are used at Prestonwood North in combination with announcements and music from local pastors and musicians.

By supporting up to 1080p resolution with imperceptible end-to-end latency, the MAKO HD codec helps to maintain synchronization and preserve the continuity of remote worship services.

The hai1000 TelePresence codec system delivers the highly efficient MPEG-4 AVC / H.264 video compression standard at unsurpassed levels, enabling communication of high-resolution HD (up to 1080p) or SD video and super wideband audio across IP networks at bandwidths anywhere from 256 kbps to 10 Mbps.

Prestonwood leases a 100 Mbps pipe from ATT, but the dual video signals and audio encoded by the HaiVision systems require just 18 to 20 Mbps of the circuit. Return video and audio from Prestonwood North is projected on to an IMAG screen in the main sanctuary to provide a two-way connection between worship sites.

"Prestonwood is a leader in the ecumenical faith-based community, and we're pleased to have worked closely with the church to establish an advanced Teleministry model that enhances the quality and accessibility of worship services," said Peter Maag, senior vice president at HaiVision. "The response of church members has been overwhelming, demonstrating the power of high-quality video streaming in creating a transparent and tangible connection across multiple campuses."
