Broadcast Pix Announces DVI I/O for Slate™ Switchers

May 14, 2007

Source: Broadcast Pix

Broadcast Pix, who redefined the switcher as a control room with built-in multi-view monitoring, character generator and clip store, will introduce an optional DVI input/output board for its new Slate switcher line. Broadcast Pix will debut the board at InfoComm 2007 (Booth 6533), starting June 19th in Anaheim, California.

The modular Slate input/output architecture has three I/O boards, including: SD digital, analog, and later this year HD for 720p and 1080i.  The new DVI board will add both a DVI input and a DVI output. It also includes adapters for VGA I/O.  The new DVI or VGA output will enable Slate to feed a high-resolution signal directly to a projector.  While Slate is often used with inputs from laptops via an ‘S’ video input, the new DVI  or VGA input will enable a high-resolution input from a computer.

The new DVI I/O board is priced at $900, and will be available late this year as an option for the Slate HD I/O board.  It will work on all new or existing Slate switchers.

According to Broadcast Pix President Ken Swanton, “While Slate was designed for live television production, it is also being used heavily in the presentation and events markets.  Today’s announcement makes it an even better choice in these areas thanks to a high resolution output for projectors and a built-in scan converter for a computer input, such as a PowerPoint presentation.”

At NAB 2007, Broadcast Pix introduced Version 6.0 software for the Slate line. Version 6 adds compressed clip support, including QuickTime, and a customizable multi-view for any size monitor, including huge wall-mounted displays. Version 6.0 also features AutoAspect software that enables 16:9 and 4:3 content to be used interchangeably and mixed together in the same live production, while maintaining the native aspect ratio of each element.  Additionally, new Version 6 options include: audio-follow-video software for automatic control of an audio mixer with MIDI; more keyers and up tp 6 picture-in-picture boxes; PowerAux™ for keying on secondary outputs; eight chromakeys to couple with integrated still and clip stores for virtual set creation, and CG Connect which enables an external database to automatically update on-air graphics.
